Two Ways to Run a Backtest in NinjaTrader 8

This 8 minute video demonstrates two ways to run a backtest in NinjaTrader: on a chart or in Strategy Analyzer.

There are a few differences between the two approaches.

  • Running a backtest on a chart gives you much more visual feedback and allows you to compare your entries and exits to the price movements on the chart.
  • Running your backtest in Strategy Analyzer gives you more options including optimization and walk-forward tests.
  • Both approaches allow you to view a detailed performance report.
  • Strategy Analyzer will close out any open positions at the end of the backtest and include them in the performance report. Running on the chart will not include any positions that are open at the end of the backtest.
